I’m Lucy, a multidisciplinary graphic designer with 13 years experience spread across design studios, ad agencies and my own freelance workspace.

  • I’m also a painter, a sweet-tooth, a design lover, a coffee needer, a reformer pilates instructor and a mum of two boys. I love to try new things – my latest venture is my small flock of chickens! My aim is to adopt a slower lifestyle despite living in New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland.

  • I was actually “supposed” to be a journalist (and judging by the length of this bio, I’m sure you believe it!). But during my journalism degree, I found that dreaming up visualisations to represent my words was far more satisfying that writing formulaic articles. Besides, my introverted self was always going to be more suited to crafting quietly in the corner than banging down the door for the latest scoop!

I’ve nurtured a thirst to learn, grow and push my limits since studying both creative advertising and graphic design. While at Media Design School I nerded out on any project that came my way and subsequently graduated with Distinction, attained an Industry Award (Highly Commended in Illustration) and spoke on behalf of the student body at graduation (see, copywriting always comes in handy!).

Honing my skills in environments that only small, indie agencies can give, it didn't take long for me to learn how to pull my weight in many areas of the ideation process: design (of course), writing (of course), problem solving, campaign ideation, and later, mentoring. In 2016 I branched out and became a freelance designer, which allowed me to work with many lovely people from around the world, and gave me flexibility while raising my two sons. Now, with over 13 years experience in the advertising and design industries, I have worked across multiple mediums, on both small and large scale projects... and I love it all!

The Process

Branding (or re-branding) your business can feel overwhelming; that’s why I break the process into 4 easy steps, and guide you along every step of the way.

  • The process starts with some chats (over coffee or email, location depending!). I listen to your aspirations and goals, talk you through the design process, and will often send some homework to aid in capturing any unknowns about your project. Next we define the project deliverables and project pricing. Once that deposit comes through, we are on to step 2!

  • Now we’re ready to start exploring how your project will be communicated via design. I create a visual moodboard to encapsulate the aesthetic and strategic direction of your unique voice. This provides a visual checkpoint before moving forward.

  • Now I’ll have everything I need to begin crafting some concepts for your project, playing with a variety of directions that thoughtfully align with the project’s agreed goals and tone. The strongest concepts are encapsulated in a detailed presentation that I share with you – this includes logos, colour palettes and other unique branding elements.

Once you’ve picked the the direction that aligns best, we work through two rounds of refinement on your chosen concept, discussing what's working as well as any opportunities to explore and grow. During this stage, I always make sure that what we’re creating aligns with your project’s goals, so honest communication is essential.

  • Once everything is finalised and approved, you’ll receive all of the files and tools needed to successfully launch your brand. Depending on the project deliverables we’ve agreed upon, this usually includes all necessary logo and icon files, brand guidelines, imagery, illustrations, patterns and other brand collateral. Now it’s time to celebrate your beautiful and thoughtful new brand!

This is where I curate my creations.
